Marcos pinalagan taas-pasahe; nangako ng libreng sakay, diskwento

HINDI matutuloy ang nakaambang taas-pasahe para sa mga public utility vehicle (PUV) ngayong araw, March 19.

Ito ang iniutos mismo ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, kasabay ng pangakong libreng sakay sa buong bansa at diskwento sa tren at toll fees.

Ang anunsyo ay kasunod ng pag-apruba ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sa dagdag-pasahe para sa jeepney, bus, airport taxi, at transport network vehicle services.

"In my opinion, because we still have problems due to the war in the Middle East, I said maybe this is not the time to raise fares for our countrymen," sey ni Pangulong Marcos na iniulat ng INQUIRER.

Dagdag niya, "That's why I ordered the DOTr [Department of Transportation] to suspend the fare hike for now, and let's defer that. Let's postpone that first because we are currently in the middle of this situation where we need to continue supporting our commuters, all our workers, students—everyone who uses our transport system."

Sa kabila nito, tiniyak ng presidente na hindi pababayaan ang mga transport worker.

Ayon sa kanya, bibilisan at palalakihin ang cash at fuel subsidies para makatulong sa epekto ng tumataas na presyo ng petrolyo.

Bukod dito, inatasan din niya ang DOTr na maglunsad ng libreng sakay program sa buong bansa.

"And on the MRT (Metro Rail Transit) and LRT (Light Rail Transit), we will provide fare discounts," wika ni Marcos.

Patuloy niya, "On top of that, we have also ordered discounts on toll roads so that the public will pay less for using them."

Iginiit din ng pangulo na sisikapin ng gobyerno na hindi mararamdaman halos ng publiko ang epekto mula sa krisis sa Middle East.

"Please remember that your government is always here. We are constantly thinking of new ways to ensure that your daily lives remain normal, orderly, and safe," mensahe ni Pangulong Marcos.

Samantala, sinimulan na ng gobyerno ang pamamahagi ng cash assistance para sa mga PUV driver, kung saan unang nakatanggap ang mga tricycle driver.

Aabot sa 139,000 tricycle drivers sa Metro Manila ang makakatanggap ng tig-P5,000 sa ilalim ng Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Program ng DSWD.

Target namang ipamahagi ang tulong para sa lahat ng PUV drivers pagsapit ng Abril.

Bukod sa cash aid, makakatanggap din ng fuel subsidies ang mga driver mula sa DOTr simula katapusan ng Marso, na mag-iiba ang halaga depende sa sektor at gastos sa operasyon.
