Jay R tinupad hiling ng yumaong ama na gumawa ng pelikula: ‘And it’s very timely!’

TILA nagsilbi ring tribute para sa yumaong ama ang pelikula ni Jay R na "Songs For Selina."

Sa presscon na present ang BANDERA, ibinunyag ng King of R&B na ang paulit-ulit na kahilingan ng kanyang ama na gumawa siya ng pelikula ang nagbigay-inspirasyon para mabuo ang proyekto.

"Before my father died, for some reason he just kept telling me, 'Jay, the next level is when it's time to produce the movie.' Every single time I saw him, kasi he was very sick na. We moved to the US just to be with my father. And every time na nandoon kami sa ospital, 'Jay, movie na, movie na'. So finally, there was this one New Year's morning, magkasama kami nila George [Schulze], si Mica [Javier], ang family namin, and parang nag-uusap lang kami…Meron kaming mga story, may ideas na kami, so nag-brainstorm kami," kwento ni Jay R sa entertainment press.

Chika pa niya, "Dinala namin sa direktor namin si Dean [Rosen] and we brought it all together. We got this great cast that helped us put the movie together, and it's very timely…But this movie will kind of explain and show you a glimpse of what really happens behind closed doors [in the music industry]."

Ayon kay George, brother-in-law nina Jay R at Mica, ang pelikula ay bunga ng kanilang passion.

"Everything within our movie is fictional. But there actually are some comparisons you could make to our industry. So this was kind of a love letter that Jay R and Mica have to their experiences. Especially a love letter to younger artists, telling them that they can have their own voice. Which I find really, really incredible," sambit niya.

Patuloy ng producer-actor, "It's very important for us that the theatrical premiere of this movie is in the Philippines. We want our Filipinos to be able to really see local Philippine talent in a film. 100% shot and created by Filipino staff, Filipino crew, and Filipino creatives."

Ang "Songs For Selina" ay isang independent music-themed drama tungkol sa dalawang musical soulmates, sina Selina at Maya, na nasubok ang kanilang pagkakaibigan dahil sa mga hamon sa mundo ng musika.

Bida sa pelikula sina Mica at Rachel Coates, kasama ang ensemble na sina Rachel Alejandro, Audie Gemora, Nicole Laurel, Leanne Mamonong, Gian Magdangal, Gabby Padilla, at Jay R.

Bago pa ipalabas sa Pilipinas sa March 18 sa select Ayala Malls cinemas, na-stream na ang pelikula sa US via Amazon Prime US, Tubi, Apple TV, at iba pang cable providers.
